Why do Republicans act like Ashley Todd is an isolated incident?

Most of the violent and outwardly racist attacks we hear about during Election seasons are perpetrated against Democrats by Republicans every year...

And racist false claims by white women against Black men are nothing new either...

Here's some articles to jog your memory:

Ashley Todd echoes Susan Smith and Charles Stuart:

Self-described conservative against liberals opens fire on children's show at a church:

Columbine Shooter's parents were members of the GOP and NRA - shooters bought weapons at gun shows and via straw purchases:

Oklahoma City Bombers were members of "Aryan Republican Army" and were ex-military GOP members who also had dealings with Muslim Terrorists from Pakistan:

Another White christian woman drowns own kids in Texas:

Rich lady in Texas stabs kids and blames it on a black intruder:

Christian woman in Texas cuts off her baby's arms as a sacrifice to God:

Charles Manson, a serial killer from West Virginia who murdered Hollywood liberals believes the New Testament warns of Black Muslims trying to trigger a race war :

White Man shoots pregnant wife and blames it on black robber:

Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated — has made a flier that showed Senator Obama’s face on a faux food stamp that also included watermelon and fried chicken:

You are so right! John McCain jumped on that train so fast it was like a hurricane blowing through, another chance to not-so-subtly link criminal acts to Obama, to continue with the innuendo and outright attacks on his character, to intimate that he "doesn't think of America like we do." The depth of their racist insinuations and outright accusations is disgraceful, disgusting and, I am quite sure, illegal.

I can say that, since I began supporting the Liberal cause in this country, I have been subjected to insults and slams that no woman should have to endure. So smugly superior are these so-called Christian believers that they step outside the instructions of the God they profess to follow and dip into language and behavior that curdles the blood of the average person.

Take the case of a fellow who indulged in terrorist activities throughout the country, bombing abortion clinics, even bombing a park in Georgia during the Olympics, killing and maiming. Some Black man charged with similar crimes would be strapped to a gurney and killed. But he was given life in prison instead, with the flimsy excuse that they wanted to find weapons caches. He is now enjoying privileges in prison that other inmates do not qualify to have.

The behavior of these people is, in my estimation, rancid with illegality and hatred. Rush Limbaugh broadcasts hate. Other Shock Jocks follow suit. A bevy of uninformed, uneducated people swallow this garbage and their anger foments until they behave like animals instead of human beings. John McCain is encouraging this behavior. So is Sarah Palin.

I sincerely hope that this election consists of the American public saying "Enough!" I sincerely hope that the level heads amid both political ideologies can find common ground. If not, we descend to vicious battling in a way that is reminiscent of witch burnings and KKK torture sessions that this country should have outgrown.

We can have no progress until this anger is abated and common sense prevails. If that happens, there may be hope for America to once again shine among nations throughout the world.

Perhaps it is understandable if we think of many republicans as

    1. having an "eternal reward" outlook toward their lives.

    2. What's at stake in any conflict is easily "ginned up" to be a simple apocalyptic conflict between God and the Devil emotionally. So of couse God must be on the Republican side. And the democrats are a direct manifestation of all the powers of the devil. And if you're white maybe God is closer to you and likes you better and the black people must be the devil.

It's the same kind of thing were distressed people get violent start to think that burning witches might be just the kind of scurrilous act that bcomes the most noble thing they might ever do in life. And then it becomes like gorrilla tactics. A small group can undermine a large group even in battle Sabotage or injure an opponent in one small way that throws them off-purpose to deal with it. (The tactic works particularly well when you are more familiar or move easily with a particular terrain than the opponent -in this case the terrain is people who have difficulty discerining 5hi+ from shinola.)

A democrat was the first to do it in a memorable way, but he was at least referring to something that could indeed be made apocalyptic at the mere push of a button.

Because Republicans tend to be more rigid, moralistic, and racist than Democrats in terms of personality characteristics By minimizing the incident the Republicans are engaging in denial, in an effort to shore up their losing campaign. There are many exceptions however among Republicans. Democrats tend to be more open, less racist and less moralistic Witness their stands on War, choice, and other issues. Ashley Todd simply followed a pattern consonant with the above. The basic idea was to foment tensions between Black and White. Additionally such individual show signs of confirmatory bias where a racist will believe or say that Blacks committed a crime, reflective of such prior assumptions. The notion of confirmatory bias and it's link was provided by another member who answered your question

Republicans count on people having short memories and trivialize incidents that make them look bad, yet better still they perpetuate those of their rivals (the Democrats).
