Lucky bamboo entirely underwater?

I have submerged a lucky bamboo underwater, planting its roots under the rocks. However, when I do water changes, it moves the plant around a lot and I have to repack the roots under the rocks, so I'd like to just place it horizontal along the bottom of the aquarium. Doing this would leave its roots entirely exposed. Will this be ok?
Update: For a plant that is not supposed to be living underwater it is doing quite well and has grown noticeably since I've put it in.
