How do I fix my CD drive?

Up until recently my CD (also DVD) drive on my computer has been working without any problems, but recently, it's been playing up and doesn't recognise anything... I've tried music and games and it doesn't do anything. When I look under My Computer to try and find the drive it isn't there...

Any ideas?!

Either your CD/DVD is dead or you may simply have a loose cable. If you are comfortable opening your case, open up your computer and insure the cables are inserted tightly both into the CD/DVD unit AND the motherboard.

    Good luck!

sounds like your CD-rom is RIP. I recommend just getting a new one they are fairly cheap now days, good ones are NEC and plextor, although stay away from plextor if using linux there not open source friendly.
