Jehovah's Witnesses and Ex Jehovah's Witnesses?
Having been known that JW is a true religion, why do so many people leave it?
I know I'm a terrible example to call myself a witness, because in truth...I suck at being one.
But aside from that, why do so many people leave the religion that they know is the truth? I know I'm FAR from being an acceptable witness, but the last thing I wanna do is LEAVE it. Even when Jehovah knows and I know that I screw up alot, I still feel peaceful and loved, and forgiven. Sometimes I even wonder WHY Jehovah forgives me sometimes. He listens to me, when even I don't wanna listen to me. You know what I'm saying? I'm sorry, I'm not really making sense in this whole question, but I need to get this out.
So...why leave something that truly gave you a piece of mind?? How could you?? :(

just know 'ImAnElephant"(imma call u Ele' for short, lol) that it's a battle and struggle for each and every one of us, to keep and maintain our stance in faith! satan makes sure of that, as i'm sure you're well aware of.
it boils down to a change in the persons heart condition. and the main target for satan and his demons.
that's why they (satan and his demons) are in the situation that they are in. they allowed selfish thoughts and opinions to fester in their mind. which in turn caused them to have a negative change of heart.
which is the main reason why most ppl decide to leave Jehovah's favor. they simply allowed whatever was a stumbling block in their lives, to change their heart condition.
and stumbling blocks can come in many forms. fornication, bad association, work, stressful relationships with spouses, having a haughty attitude, pride, allowing someones words or actions to affect you in a negative way ect....
and just like satan allowing those things to fester and affect our heart condition negatively.
and alot of times the person never had the right heart condition in the first place. they might have became a JW for all the wrong reasons. examples, pressure from parents, because a friend or loved one became a witness, or it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time. some ppl have many excuses and reasons.
just be glad that your heart is still in the right place. and glad satan hasn't got ahold of it like so many who PROUDLY claim to be apostates or ex JWs.
and pray to Jehovah to give you the right heart condition. He wants to! we just have to be humble enough to ask.=)

I am so pleased you asked former Jehovah's Witnesses to answer this question. Otherwise, how could you ever find out why they left? There are some interesting answers from your spiritual brothers and sisters - but not one of them has come up with the obvious.
While I was a Jehovah's Witness, I also thought I had the true religion and there was no way I was ever going to leave it. That would be really stupid, wouldn't it, to leave what you believed to be true that gave you peace of mind. Neither did I leave because I was immoral or someone stumbled me or I simply didn't want to live up to the Bible's high standards. I wasn't mixing with worldly people, I didn't take up smoking or drinking. In fact, I was pioneering and I was married to a pioneer. So why did I leave?
You need to understand that my parents became Witnesses in the 1930's, and that I knew nothing other than what Jehovah's Witnesses believed. We were all expecting the end of 6,000 years of man's existence to end in the fall of 1975 (I can provide the Watchtower quotations if you doubt me) and that meant Armageddon would come soon after. My parents believed they were the generation that would see the fulfilment of the end-time prophecies in Matthew 24 and that they would be alive when the Millennial reign of Christ started. None of us made any of this up. We all believed what the Society told us.
Guess what? This prophecy was false - we're still waiting, 33 years later. This is the reason I left - false prophecies about dates and predictions when 6,000 years of human existence will end. Any peace of mind I had was shattered when I realised the extent to which I had been mislead.
I am now a born-again Christian with a heavenly hope and I praise God that, through the Holy Spirit, he brought me to a place of repentance and forgiveness. Religion does not save. Only Jesus Christ can do that.

Honey, I don't know anything about Jehovah Witnesses. Look if you want to find out why people leave why not ask them. Can you? Better yet why don't you ask the Lord to show you. You say that you have peace of mind. Maybe, these others didn't. There might have been something that didn't fit to them. I've heard of people leaving other beliefs because there was something in their religion that didn't align with God's Word. I don't know. My pastor always told us not to take his word on things but to check things out ourselves in the Word of God. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2Tim.2:15. Check out the scriptures and don't be caught up with the feelings. Feelings can deceive you. Follow the Peace. Peace is not a feeling it is an assurance from God that you're going in the right direction.Of course He loves you. He's Abba, Father. Abba, means daddy. He listens when you call out on His name. His name is Jesus.

Can I just say this...
If you want to be a Jehovah's Witness, then why ask about leaving?
Do you love God?
Ex JW's say awful things to get people to leave and it's usually offensive and rude.
Do you want to be an Ex?

JW are a doomsday cult.
Every time they come to my door, they talk about how there are wars and this and that nuclear boom-boom. The first time, I didn't know who they were. So I thought they are an organization bent on changing the world so they got me interested in the first minute. So I asked them what they are planning on doing. He tells me, we can't do anything.
WTF? Why are you here? Are you at my door to sell me a religion? No thank you.
BTW, I visited youtube and looked at some documentaries about these guys.
I'll remain an atheist who wants a better world, not some "jew" religion.

I was raised as a JW. This is why I'm not one today:
Hebrews 7:3 - Jesus had no beginning, nor end
Micah 5:2 - From early times, from the days of time indefinite
(Compare with Habakkuk 1:12 and Psalm 93:2 about Jehovah.)
Hebrews 9:11-12 - Not of this creation
John 1:3 All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.
Hebrews 3:3-4 - Jesus/God created everything.
Rev. 1: 17,18 - Jesus is the First and the Last (Compare with Rev 22:13 - Jehovah is the First and the Last. How can there be more than one First? more than one Last?)
Phil 2:6 He was existing in God’s form.
(Compare with Isaiah 43:10)
Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.
(NOT an angel turned man turned back to angel.)
Hebrews 2:5 - It is not to angels that He has subjected the earth to
Hebrews 1:6 - All the angels did obeisance/worshipped Jesus
(so then did He do obeisance/worship Himself?)
Isaiah 9:6 - Mighty God, Eternal Father
Isaiah 7:14/Mt 1:23 - Immanuel: God With Us
John 10:30 - Jesus and the Father are one.
John 20:28 - Jesus is "the* Lord of me and the* God of me."
*Look at a Greek to English Interlinear. "THE God" (ho theos) is the same as God Almighty.
Even more important than getting to the bottom of the this is understanding the pure Gospel message, and putting your faith in Jesus' sacrifice.... not in religious leaders. God does not expect you to have all the answers before you can put your trust in Him. When you ask for the Holy Spirit, He will guide you into ALL Truth!
Look at all the examples of baptisms in the New Testament. When someone came to faith in Jesus, did it look ANYTHING like the process to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls." (Acts 2:41 KJV)
We get an even more detailed account with the Ethopian eunich. (Acts 8:27-39 KJV)
When he, the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, is come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH. John 16:13
"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." (1 John 2:27 KJV)
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (Luke 11:13 KJV)
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3 KJV)
It is BETTER TO TRUST IN THE LORD than to put confidence in man. Psalms 118:8
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11
Did you catch that? The Bereans were NOBLE for questioning an APOSTLE, to see if anything he said wasn't accurate according to GOD's WORD!!!
So if is noble to question an Apostle, it is ALSO noble to question the Governing Body, pope, or any other religious leader. And any religious leader telling you otherwise should be a strong warning to run the other way! Do NOT be misled!
Let God be true, but every man a liar. Romans 3:4Source(s): Five years comparing the NWT and the Kingdom Interlinear to other translations. My examination of the NWT was the first clue something wasn't right. http://mmoutreachinc.com/jehovahs_witnesses/kit.ht...

I really have no idea. And even I left once. I am back now and have been so for a while. Coming back was the best thing I did. It is so clearly the truth.
You cannot be any worse then me. But Jehovah can read hearts and he knows we are imperfect. So you may feel you are far from being an acceptable Witness but in the eyes of Jehovah you are trying hard and doing your best.
I think some leave as they cannot live up to the Christian standards or just no longer believe. It is a shame that some leave willingly but I guess it is an example of the sowing of the seeds or even the reaping work that is now going on.

A little research will soon prove that most of what they teach is a lie. So hilarious that although they vigorously preached that the United Nations was evil, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society secretly belonged to it as an NGO until "outed" by the UK Guardian newspaper.

I know this is a really old post. But I stopped going bc my husband at the time who was a JW physically abused me and TECHNICALLY you cant get a divorce without someone cheating. I told the elders this and they didnt do anything about it. And many brothers and sisters said I need to stay with him. Why? So next time he attacks he can kill me?? I think not! I left him 7 months ago and his family said im demon pocessed. They believe he is a saint! Nobody believes that he physically hurt me. So I said agree that and stopped going to the meetings.

I understand !
They are your people !
It was the same for me !
Things happened in my situation and I got offended !
So I walked away.
My family were still JWs as are my In laws.
I hid out from those I thought were my friends for years.
One day during a rough time in my life I hit bottom emotionally.
I called out to God and He was there !
I started studying the Bible looking for answers.
While I was doing that God started me learning about the Nation of Israel !
I was blown away and ashamed !
Of course the Issue of the Jews led me to look at my beliefs as a Jehovah's Witness and what I found made me ill !
I found out that Jesus WAS the Issue and anything that made Him less that He was HAD TO BE WRONG !
So many questions about the Organization !
Number One, if God was with the Organization, why the failed prophecies ?
A light came on, He wasn't for an Organization, He came and was for a PEOPLE, All of us !
My family have left the Organization and now follow Jesus.
I had nothing to do with that.
Truth is Truth and it will stand on it's own !

I left because I was forced to study since i'm a minor and have no say. I never wanted to be in any religion because trying to hold onto what I didn't believe in, I knew it was a lie to me since i'm an atheist.
