What is this Alaskan Beer?
My boyfriend has been raving about this beer and I'd like to get some for him. He says its name is Northern Light or something like that. Does anyone remember the full name?

The beer your boyfriend is referring to is Alaskan Pale which has, in the past, had a tagline "A Northern Light". Alaskan Pale is a Golden Ale style. A blonde, lighter bodied beer with a floral aroma and a crisp, hoppy finish that's not bitter. The hop character of Alaskan Pale is due to dry hopping by hand during the fermentation process.
According to the company's website: www.alaskanbeer.com
Alaskan Pale has been awarded the following awards:
2006 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Bitter
2006 World Beer Cup Silver Medal, Ordinary Bitter
2003 Australian International Beer Awards Gold Medal Ale, Other
2002 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Golden Ale
2001 Calgary Microbrewery Stampede Silver Medal Light Golden Ale
1998 World Beer Cup Honorable Mention Blonde Ale
1998 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Golden Ale
1997 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Golden Ale
1996 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Golden Ale
1993 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Blonde Ale
Alaskan Brewing, however, is also famous for their Alaskan Amber which is their flagship beer. Alaskan Summer Ale, a kolsch-style beer is selling like hotcakes in summertime followed up by Alaskan Winter Ale which is brewed using Sitka Spruce tips (yum!). Worldwide they are best known in beer circles for their Alaskan Smoked Porter. The malt is smoked over alder wood and this beer can be aged like a fine wine. It's a stellar product.
In any case, if you want to order some for your beau - Alaskan beer is available in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. For those outside the distribution area who yearn for a "taste of Alaska," you may contact the following:
Check out Liquid Solutions - http://www.liquidsolutions.biz/main/ They can send any amount, but they recommend a case or more to even out shipping.
For folks in California - Beverages & More (http://www.bevmo.com/) can ship within California only. They carry Alaskan Amber, Alaskan IPA, Alaskan Pale, Alaskan Summer Ale and Alaskan Smoked Porter.
It's not inexpensive to have it shipped depending on where you are located but if he's a true connoisseur, he'll really be excited about your surprise:)Source(s): www.alaskanbeer.com, self - former longtime employee

There is a Northern Lights Brewing Co but they are out of Washington. They have wide distribution in Alaska though...they also make a bunch of different beers. Here's a link to them all and congrats to your boyfriend for having good taste
