Here's the code section:
§ 4304. Endangering welfare of children.
(a) Offense defined.--A parent, guardian, or other person supervising the welfare of a child under 18 years of age commits an offense if he knowingly endangers the welfare of the child by violating a duty of care, protection or support.
(b) Grading.--An offense under this section constitutes a misdemeanor of the first degree. However, where there is a course of conduct of endangering the welfare of a child, the offense constitutes a felony of the third degree.
Basically it says that a child endangerment charge starts as a first degree misdemeanor, but can be go up to a third degree felony.
A first degree misdemeanor can get up to 5 years in prison. A third degree felony can get up to 7 years in prison. The sentence can go higher if there are any prior convictions for anything on the record. It's a big complicated matrix when that happens and I would have to know alot more about the situation and the persons past criminal history.
Hope that helpsSource(s): See: http://www.pitt.edu/~weinberg/grading.htm for the sentencing max for each crime grade and http://members.aol.com/StatutesPA/18.Cp.43.html for the text of the criminal statute I quoted above.
