Why are the republicans so concerned over Bill Ayers, who Obama knew when he was an 8 year old child?

Why are they on here spreading lies trying to make it seem as if though Obama knew him recently? He lived in the same neighborhood as Ayers when he was 8 years old, so, and, tell me somebody who didn't have at least one nut job in their neighborhood when they were 8? What's the point?

Oh yeah, and if you are going to try to contradict my truthful statement, please provide a link to your false accusations.

My compliments on your not getting a single rebuttal in all this time. Not bad.

While the dittoheads are regrouping, let me just provide some backup:

This gullibility test from the Ailes camp has been put in perspective and debunked enough here at Y!A that nobody has an excuse for reposting it. Nevertheless, let's put this desperate, kitchen-sink attack that's become Palin's latest scripted rant in some perspective -- yet again.

Bill Ayers and Barack Obama at one time lived in the same neighborhood in the city of Chicago, and both had worked on education reform in the state of Illinois. The two met "at a luncheon meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper." Obama was then named to the Chicago Annenberg Project board to oversee the distribution of grants in Chicago. Later in 1995, Ayers hosted "a coffee" for "Mr. Obama's first run for office." The two served together on a community anti-poverty group, the Woods Fund of Chicago, between 2000 and 2002, during which time the board met twelve times. Ayers also contributed $200 to Obama's re-election fund to the Illinois State Senate in April 2001." Since 2002, there has been little linking Obama and Ayers. Obama says he has not visited Ayers during the presidential campaign. The senator said in September 2008 that he hadn't "seen him in a year-and-a-half." In February 2008, Obama spokesman Bill Burton released a statement from the senator about the relationship between the two: "Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence. But he was an eight-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost forty years ago is ridiculous." CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved. Internal reviews by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and The New Republic "have said that their reporting doesn't support the idea that Obama and Ayers had a close relationship.

NPR has the truth about Ayers and Chicago, here:

The story quotes various civic leaders, Republican as well as Democratic, who note that Ayers was accepted as an education expert in Chicago and that NO ONE made a big deal out of his past. The board he and Obama served on was formed by a grant, which AYERS won, from the Annenberg Foundation--yes, the Republican Annenberg, and there were Republicans as well as Democrats on the board.

Odd that everyone jumps on Obama for his strictly coincidental interaction with Ayers, but no one seems to have a problem with Ayers teaching impressionable young minds for decades at a major university.

Obama has denounced the actions of Ayers. The context of his appearance at Ayers's home was that a mentor brought him to a fundraiser to provide information about his political beliefs and agenda in Chicago politics. It does not imply anything about his thinking regarding the couple who owned the house. He was asked to speak to a group of influential local citizens and he did.

Let's look at some of McCain's associations, that are much closer than between Obama and Ayers:

Bob Allen: a Florida state representative who was busted last July for soliciting sex in a public bathroom (McCain campaign staffer)

Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz.: indicted on fraud, conspiracy and money laundering charges (McCain campaign staffer)

    G. Gordan Liddy: Convicted felon (from Iran-Contra) who admits planning the assassination of a journalist and described the best ways to kill federal agents (head shots since they wear Kevlar); held fund raisers for McCain; McCain has stated "I'm proud of you" when speaking of Liddy

Charles Keating: Convicted of fraud and racketeering (business partner to McCain's wife and major donor/ fundraiser/gift giver, which made McCain one of the infamous Keating Five)

Raffaello Follieri: conspiracy to commit wire fraud; eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering; McCain spent his own 70th birthday on Follieri's yacht

Cindy McCain: investigated for theft of drugs from her medical charity; her father was a convisted felon, violating liquor licensing laws (immediate family members)

And then of course there's the association with Pastor Hagee, Palin's addressing the Alaskan Independence Party (

... , Palin being cleansed of witchcraft by her pastor, etc..

The trouble is, GOP voters don't care about associations GOP candidates make. Neither does the media. It's really amazing. What gives? Why does the allegedly liberal media give GOP associations a pass while coincidental associations by Dems?

McCain still doesn't want this smear aired out in a public debate that centrists would see. It wouldn't help him to have the counterarguments
