Your favorite slow-cooker recipe?

No mixing of meat and milk (or, easily adaptable to non-dairy IE use of non-dairy sour cream, soy products, etc), no pork, no shellfish (but would that be in a slow-cooker recipe anyway??) and finally...

any vegetarian entrees are highly appreciated.

If that's not enough specifics, I can probably find some more ;-)

how about you all just swing by and cook these for

Chickpeas, canned or soaked (and then boiled for 15-20 minutes)

Yams/sweet potatoes (the orange ones have more betacarotene and flavour), rough diced

    Carrots, sliced

Cinnamon, cloves and ground coriander seed.

I have no idea what measurements I use, but this is my favourite comfort food. When I'm organized enough, I like to add in half of the yams later -- some will break down to make a wonderful rich base, and the rest will still have some solidity.

Source(s): from Jane Brody's -Good Food Book- P.S. Yams are great for a non-dairy base that's still has that texture. Can you get them in Israel? If so, they're really handy for dairyless cooking.

This is our favorite in my house

    Slow Cooker Brisket

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 teaspoon chili powder

    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

    1/4 teaspoon onion powder

    1/4 teaspoon celery seed

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

2 1/2 pounds fresh beef brisket*, trimmed

    1/2 cup ketchup

    1/2 cup chili sauce

    1/4 cup packed brown sugar

    2 tablespoons cider vinegar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (make sure its OU)

1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring (make sure it is OU)

    1/2 teaspoon ground mustard

Combine the first six ingredients; rub over brisket. Place in a slow cooker. In a bowl, combine the sauce ingredients. Pour half over the brisket; set the remaining sauce aside. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until meat is tender. Serve with the reserved sauce.

For a vegetarian option we like slow cooker mac and cheese or cheese tortellini in alfredo or marinara sauce.

Here is how my mother makes mac and cheese.

    1 1/2 cup dry macaroni

1 1/2 tablespoon light, soft tub margarine

6 ounces light Velveeta cheese, sliced

    2 cups fat-free milk

    1 cup fat-free half-and-half

Combine macaroni, and butter. Layer cheese over top. Pour in milk and half and-half.

Cover. Cook on High 3-4 hours, or until macaroni are soft.

Marinated meatballs: ingredients: 1 package frozen italian meatballs, 1 bottle bbq sauce, 1 small bottle honey. Directions: pour all ingredients into slow cooker and cook on LOW at least 4-6 hours, but it is ok to cook longer if you need them to. I serve with mashed potatoes, english peas, and rolls.

    olive oil

big heaping tablespoon crushed garlic (the wet kind in a jar)

    2 potatoes, diced

    4 carrots, chopped

    1 large can diced tomatoes

    2 cans black beans

1 can black soy beans, if you can find them. if not, skip this ingredient*

    1/2 cup water

salt, pepper, bay leaf, dashes of hot sauce if you like it ( i do)

*without the black soy beans, this does not have a complete protein, so in their absence i always sprinkle cheese on top to complete the beans' protein

    olive oil

    big heaping tablespoon crushed garlic

    4 carrots, chopped

    4 celery stalks, chopped

    5 cups vegetable broth

    1 large can diced tomatoes

    2 cans white beans

    1 cup water

    1 cup brown rice

salt, pepper, dried oregano, dried basil

*this one is a complete protein as the rice and beans combine to make one. you probably already know that.

If perhaps it's a fruit they have seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
