What's the fifth essence (quintessence)?

You know, recently my friends and I were talking about elements and the such, and I was told by more than one person that I represented the fifth essence. I thought this was pretty cool, but had never heard of it so I want to know what it means - and whether it really applies to my character...

Your first and third answerers have fairly given the meaning.

Esoterically, the fifth essence follows the highest or quickest earthly element, fire/light (fire in this schema is focused light).

The lesser etheric is the fiery/light or fourth essence. What transcends the earthly octave are those aspects of the lesser etheric which pattern the Divine. In this way the soul, or soulfield energies, are saved, preserved. The "fiery trials" and "Our God is a consuming fire" are examples of this wisdom (wise dominion).

Some authors who deal with quintessence:

Mark Prophet, "The Path of the Higher Self,"

    O. M. Aivanhov, "Light Is a Living Spirit" and Man's Two Natures: Human and Divine,"

Ann Ree Colton, "Watch Your Dreams" and "Kundalini West,"

Dr. Olga Kharitidi, "Entering the Circle" and "The Master of Lucid Dreams," and

Free and Wilcock, "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?"

The original meaning comes from Greek cosmology. According to the majority view, everything on earth was made of some combination of the four elements, earth, air, fire, and water. But the immutable objects we see in the heavens could not be made of this mutable stuff. Rather, they were made of the fifth element, quintessence in Latin. By extension, quintessence means something better than the general run of things, perfect, immutable, incorruptible. So you have been complimented.

haven't you ever seen "The fifth element" w/ bruce willis? In that movie they say that the girl - the ultimate weapon against evil (protector of life) was the 5th element. Well, they called her the fifth element, but I thought they were implying that the fifth was life itself. "Time not important. Only life important."

also: physicists are thinking of a new form of matter existing. Dark matter. I don't know why your friends would call you that though, and they wouldn't use the term (quintessence) if they were referencing the movie. They must just mean your unlike anyone they know.
