97 Honda Civic Ex Transmission slipping?
So i bought a honda civic about a week ago with 117k mi and when im in d4 the tranny slips at about 40mph and just stays neutral and doesnt go any higher..but when im in d3 it runs fine. I'm not sure if it could be a simple problem or i need a whole new transmission..What could it be??
Sorry i really dont know much about cars

A lot of these over drive engines, use a lock up converter on them, there is often times a solenoid that aids in this. It is possible that is bad. Other wise the transmission will need to be rebuilt. if you don't do a lot of highway driving, I would just run it in 3d and not worry about it. If highway is your primary travel, then you would want to get it fixed for mileage reasons.

It could be the transmission filter. It could be dirty. If your fluid is black or dark red your transmission is shot. it could be your transmissions module to check it also.
