You have to find common ground (a class you take together, job, common ground) or compliment her of something and ask her about it (say a shirt that she is wearing) Maybe bring up a movie you want to see and ask if she has seen it, or a movie you have seen. You can do this with books, movies, tv, sports, anything she may be interested in that you know she would know and be willing to talk about.
