    31=-2 - 3y

    start by adding 2 to both sides:

    33=-3y

    now divide both sides by -3:

    -11 = y

    110-9u = 2

    start by subtracting 110 from both sides:

    -9u = -108

    now divide both sides by -9

    u = 12

    Hope I helped!

    31=-2-3Y

    you want to solve for Y

    31=-2-3Y

    +2 +2 you want to add this 2 to get the Y (variable) alone

    33/ = -3Y/ answer from step 1, now divide each side by -3 -3 -3 to get the Y alone again

    -11 = Y final answer

    problem 2

    110-9u=2

    -110 -110

    -9u/-9 = -108/-9

    u = 12

    Pretty simple.

    31 = -2 - 3y

    31+2 = -3y (Moved the -2 to the other side and now it's positive)

    33 = -3y (The result of adding the 2)

    33/-3 = y (The / is a division sign but anyways 33 divided by -3)

    -11 = y (It's -11 and that's y!)

    110 - 9u = 2

    110 - 2 = 9u (Moved 2 and it becomes negative and 9u moves and becomes positive)

    108 = 9u (The result of 110 - 2)

    108/9 = u (108 divided by 9)

    12 = u (12 is the result)

    Hope it helps.

    Ok for the first one, 31=-2-3y

    Add -2 to both sides so it would be 33=-3y

    Now divide both sides by -3, so 33/-3=-11

    y=-11

    Second one:

    110-9u=2

    2-110=-108

    -9u=-108

    Divide both sides by -9

    u=12

    31 = -2 - 3y

    31 + 2 = -3y

    y = 33/-3 = -11

    110 - 9u = 2

    9u = 110 - 2 = 108

    u = 108/9

    u = 12

    31 = -2 - 3y

    add 2 to both sides

    33 = -3y

    divide both sides by -3

    -11 = y

    similar for the other equations.

    31= -2-3y (add 2 to both sides to cancel the negative 2)

    33 = -3y (divide both sides by -3)

    -11=y

    Same process on the second one. Try it out so you get the practice.

    first, you want to get the like terms on the same side.

    31= -2-3y

    add two on each side.

    33 = -3y

    divide each side by -3.

    -11 = y would be your final answer. i hope i explained enough. :P

    try the next one on your own. ;]

    31=-2-3y

    +2 +2

    --------------

    33=-3y

    --------------

    y=-11

    110-9u=2

    -110 -110

    -------------------

    -9u=-108

    add/subtract terms so that the term with the variable is on one side by itself. then divide both sides by the coefficient of the variable. simplify and solve.
