You do not want to contact the agent on the sign outside the home. That is the selling agent, they are trying to sell the home for the people that live there.
You need a buyer's agent. Call up any reak estate company near you. Century 21, Re-Max, whatever it is. Just say, "I would like to see a few homes" and they will agree with you on a time and a realtor will greet you on the phone and ask what type of a home you are looking for. The same realtor should be working with you through your whole home buying process. So every time you want to see a home you will call that same person.
Some people don't like their realtors. So if you think your realtor is a creep or something, just call up the next company and say you are interested in seeing a home and someone else will run out to show your homes.
And yes, do not contact the realtor listing the home. They want to gouge you on the price of the home. Your buying agent also gets a commission though, but they have an ethical code they have to follow.
A selling agent would probably just have you call another realtor anyway. They wouldn't show you a home.
