WHY DID McCain vote against the GI bill???? ?

HE SCREAMS "VOTE FOR ME, I'M A WAR HERO," BUT HE VOTES AGAINST HELPING OUR VETERANS.

WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY HOMELESS VETERANS IN THIS COUNTRY? WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS WHEN THEY ARE AT WAR, AS WE SHOULD. BUT WHEN THEY COME HOME, THIS COUNTRY HAS A HISTORY OF NOT SUFFICIENTLY SUPPORTING THEM, AND MCCAIN VOTED TO CONTINUE THAT BEHAVIOR.

I GUESS BEING A WAR HERO ONLY MATTERS WHEN YOU HAVE A RICH WIFE AT HOME. IF NOT, YOU'RE SCREWED.

He said, at the time, that it would have a perverse incentive for GI's leaving the military, as if they could do that now a days.

I think that answer is simply cruel, and probably not even correct.

Get life like. no longer something occurring in Congress exact now could be what it sort of feels. That Vets larger Ed bill became a computer virus proposed by skill of the Democrats to adhere it to Republicans in an election 365 days. the 1st issue with it incredibly is that it lowers the quantity of time necessary to qualify for advantages to 3 years, relating to the dimensions of time of a single enlistment excursion. From an financial perspective, that's definitely silly. the cost of coaching a military member is extremely extreme and the device relies upon on retention of the servicemen for longer than that to be cost effective. The Republicans have a bill which will supply extra advantages in replace for longer excursions, thereby increasing retention and helping the army. The Democrats have been hoping to tension Republicans to vote against it in an election 365 days so as that they could use their guy or woman votes against it for partisan political applications. precisely as your positioned up is making an attempt to do. The bill became extra suitable fallacious because of the fact each and every sort of beef, earmarks and non-germane amendments have been strung throughout it like a Christmas Tree. contributors have been taking benefit of the possibility that it may get by way of to strengthen and fund puppy projects. McCain, maximum Republicans and dissimilar Blue dogs Democrats knew that this became a bad bill, being pushed in basic terms for political motives and voted against it. super information for taxpayers!!! somebody up there has worry-loose experience. there will be larger coaching advantages for veterans and that they'll make financial experience. The GOP has a bill that McCain helps alongside with dissimilar responsible Democrats. it gets someplace whilst the Democratic management comes to a decision to offer up enjoying video games with Vets' subjects and bypass a good bi-partisan bill for a transformation.

Because .. the Democrats had "attached" a bunch of "special interest" GARBAGE to the valuable legislation !!! .. BLAME THE DEMOCRATS !!!

Democrats are TRYING to BLAME Republicans for the FAILURES of the Socialist / Communist / Liberal / Marxist Democrats of the last 65+ YEARS !!!

Democrats have to recognize that since the 73rd Congress in 1933

... for a MAJORITY of THE LAST 65 YEARS

... Democratic Houses of Representatives and Democratic Senates have

... CONTROLLED the nation and the President.

    A TOTAL of 38 Sessions

... with Democrats in CONTROL for 28 of those!

WE need to inform/TELL our political representatives that WE NEED TO PASS a Constitutional Amendment for the LINE ITEM VETO.

This will keep the SPECIAL INTEREST GARBAGE from being attached to valuable legislation.

If Congress wants to give the president that power, they will have to pass a constitutional amendment, Supreme Justice John Paul Stevens said. "If there is to be a new procedure in which the president will play a different role in determining the text of what may become a law, such change must come not by legislation but through the amendment procedures set forth in Article V of the Constitution," Stevens said, on June 25th, 1998.

IF your special interest is SO valuable, why do you have to HIDE it in valuable legislation?

So, with them REFUSING to PASS the Line Item Veto, in reality, the House and Senate have REALLY been controlling the country!!

AND, with the CURRENT Senate and Congress having the WORST approval rating in HISTORY, hopefully we will see a LOT of changes after the general elections.

A recent Reuters poll is out and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have pulled an upset: They have managed to make George Walker Bush twice as popular as CONGRESS.

RECENTLY - - JUST 8% of Likely Voters now say the DEMOCRATICALLY CONTROLLED Congress is doing a good or excellent job.

Democrats generally believe in heavy fines for honest work, while rewarding sloth and indulgence.

Do YOU think that people should be able to do absolutely nothing productive and get government hand-outs for sloth and indulgence - healthcare, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, STDs, etc. ??

Do YOU want to have YOUR MONEY TAKEN from YOU and YOUR FAMILY to FINANCE these people ???

He voted against it so a better, more fair one could be put in place instead.

Like every other Liberal question I have ever read, this had very little research put into it. That was very shortsighted of you because the second you saw something that could offend McCain, you ran straight toward Y!A without even bothering to go even deeper into the subject. What kind of change are the Democrats going to bring to this country if they can't do something everybody learned to do in High School? RESEARCH & CITE SOURCES.

McCain voted against the Webb bill because it was financially irresponsible and damaging to our national security. McCain’s primary objection was to a provision that would provide a four-year college scholarship for all veterans after only three years of service. And that benefit was not limited to veterans who had served in combat zones. It would also apply to veterans who spent their three years shuffling paper at a military base in the States.

Like all large organizations, the military services’ greatest expenditures are for personnel costs. It is expensive to recruit, train, clothe and equip personnel. Offering a four-year college scholarship after only three years of service would be an inducement for personnel to leave the service rather than remain. McCain did not object to scholarships, but wanted the full benefit to be available only after a longer period of service. Personnel turnover is a serious problem for any organization. In the military, it could pose a serious threat to our security. When we lose a person who has been on the job for three years, it takes three years of training to replace him or her. The military can’t afford to play catch-up. It needs to be ready at all times.

    • Look at the roll call of the dead and take a good look at their MOS' they are not all combat infantry. Doctors, Nurses, Mechanics, Cooks, Admin, and all the rest. Being in the military ISN'T a free lunch we all sign a blank check to be paid up to and possibly including our lives.

Because he is in lockstep with Cheney/Rove/Daddy Bush. It's republicans they don't want to do for their country at least not 95% but the will give CORPORATE WELFARE out the whoo waa. Then hope that no-one realizes that they have borrowed the money to bail out all these corporations from another country because guess what. Yep, you got it THEY ARE NOT FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE EITHER.

The problelm is they really believe that they are going to be given a special advantage if they vote the Neo-cons back in power. I don't know why they think that a weak country will benefit them. This traditional value that they are holding onto is going to be the ruination of our country.

Because there were two new GI bills sent to congress, he happened to support the other one, which he happened to write.

I am a Veteran, and I don't appreciate you trying to use us to try to make McCain look bad. That is disrespectful. I couldn't care less if you support him or not, but why talk about something that you know nothing about?

Because it had a bunch of pork attached to it!! You need to stop getting your talking points from the disgraced John Edwards. Go do your research & you'll find out the facts don't support your opinion.

He votes against anything involving veterans. It's probably has to do with the brainwashing he received while in Vietnam. Watch this the 1992 Senate Select Committee on John McCain and POWs/MIAs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFM1xqqTX_g
