the biggest thing is diet. iron is the only nutrient in our body that is controlled solely by absorption not excretion. on average the human body absorbs 20% of the iron taken in. if someone is deficient the body knows this and absorbs more(i.e. menstruating women).

so a start would be limiting foods high in iron like meat and dark greens(spinach, collards, mustard greens). this should be highly regulated to make sure she doesn't go deficient.

another idea is to get a spectra cell test preformed. http://www.osteomed2.com/Spectracell.html

many vitamins and nutrients determine what you body does with itself. seeing if there are other problems would really help to determine if just taking in too much iron is her problem or if she has too much or little of something else.

so have her watch her diet and see her doctor or a registered dietitian for the blood test. she should see the dietitian anyways if she decides to drastically alter her diet.
