Einstein's hidden variable theory was proven wrong with the Bell experiments in 1964:
"Einstein was amongst many who believed that the theory of quantum mechanics must be incomplete because of the appearance of action at a distance. Along with Podolsky and Rosen, Einstein proposed that there may be hidden variables which account for this. Einstein tried to think of a way to ascribe observable properties to a system without direct measurement. He argued that if two non-commuting properties can be shown to be part of reality at the same time then Schrödinger's wave function description must be incomplete".
