The Mini Cooper S has either a supercharged or a turbocharged engine depending on the year you get.
It has more power and gas worse gas mileage and is more expensive.
The Mini Cooper has a regular, weaker engine and is cheaper.

the cooper s older models came with a supercharged engine, a hood bonnet, dual exhaust, upgrades suspension, better exhaust and better air filter
the new mini cooper s models come with a turbo engine instead of supercharged engines like the old ones
if you want performance get a cooper S if you jsut want a small car go with the regular mini
o ya im pretty sure the cooper S takes premium gas while regular mini takes unleaded regular

Honestly, only you can really say that, and should try test driving each to confirm. Personally, the standard Cooper would be quick enough for me (not that I'd turn down a Cooper S of course), but you might feel differently.
