Rubbing the steel with a soft wire brush is useful.

But pls remember improper cleaning is probably to destroy your valuable sword, the best way when rust happens is to see a polishing specialist .

Go to the hardware store and ask for Naval Jelly. That'll do it. May take a few coats, but it reverses the oxidation.

Since more than likely it is ruined anyway.....just use some CLR on it....then apply a thin coat of oil to keep it from rusting up again.

I suppose "with the blood of your enemies" isn't a great answer?

    Good luck!
