When using a power inverter, do I need a surge suppressor?

I just installed a 2-outlet, 400 Watt power inverter, in my car-- mainly to power my lap top. I know I use surge suppressors/protectors for the electronic devices in my house: Do I need to use one in the car, too?

It won't draw additional power, and it never hurts to have protection. The biggest problem with inverters is the cheaper you go the choppier the AC wave coming out.

If it's a decent inverter it shouldn't need any filtering of the output (and if it's not proper surge suppressors (not the junk that you are probably using in your house that probably aren't actually providing any protection) would probably cost more than just getting a better inverter in the first place).

Laptop power supplies tend to be more tolerant of bad power than most devices so you should be fine (provided it's a decent inverter).

I don't think so. It depends on the quality of the inverter. Now a days, manufacturers put a lot of protection in the Inverter.

A good inverter will act as a surge limiter as well.
