It was an "energy-boosting smelling salts/poppers kind of thing" according to the UK's The Guardian. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/aug...
It was "smelling salts" says someone from The Runningwriter's Weblog. (http://therunningwriter.wordpress.com/)
Whoever writes for a web page called Jewel Garden posted this ' I noticed she had something from her hips that she sniffed, (I missed where she got the first one). Commentators said about ‘carbohydrate’ thing at first, later a “smelling salt”. ' (http://jewelgarden8.com/?p=43)
"Official" information on this subject is curiously nonexistent. Hmmmm. Maybe that's because it's a non-issue. Maybe it's because the whole thing is being examine at higher Olympic levels. Maybe it's because no one knows.
But even if no one knows, don't you think all the big news outfits would hae stories on it? EVERYONE I know is wondering, and we--like you--are just regular people.
Seems very odd, for sure, how little news there is about this subject but it's probably totally legal since she did it SO openly, and therefore not much of a story for the big news hounds.
Good question! I've definitely been wondering this, too. Thanks for asking it!
