    Antivirus XP 2008 Decoded

    Company: Not yet found

    Product: Fraud.Antivirus2008

    Threat: Malware

    Description

Fraud.Antivirus 2008 claims to be an antispyware solution. When it is installed on the computer it shows a lot of harmless cookies, browser helper objects and autorun entries as high risk spyware problems installed by itself. When the user wants to fix these false positives he has to purchase a license. Fraud.Antivirus 2008 is nearly the same application as Fraud.XPAntivirus. This is an executable file which downloads itself in the temp and then installs itself. This software then runs an Override to your existing Anti Virus so it cannot report it as an infection.

Where Does It Run From On The Hard Drive

    C:\Program Files\rhc7b1j0ep1j\

    Can I Uninstall It

Unfortunately uninstalling this software is not an option and neither is a System Restore because that is the first place more likely to get infected.

    What Can I Do

    1. Safemode With Networking

    2. Download sysinternals from the microsoft site

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb...

    3. Also download spybot from the below site

    http://www.spybot.com/en/download/index.html

    4. This program as unlike all Viruses runs with a fake name on your PC which makes it even more complicated for you to remove it.

    5. This program will be running on your PC as SMrhc7b1j0ep1j\.

    6. Launch sysinternals and search for this program, delete the instance of the program search for more.

    7. Open My Documents and in the Address Bar type %temp% and delete all files.

    8. Some cases it changes the Homepage to a Porn Site but not otherwise, so change it to whatever you want to.

    9. Go to C:\Program Files\rhc7b1j0ep1j\ and delete the entire folder. If you’d like to know what the folder contains I have attached a JPEG file with the contents including the License agreement.

    10. This Virus does not come alone so it is recommended that you run the spybot search and destroy.

    11. Now restart the unit and you will be good to go.

  • Well it looks like you have two probelems then, 1, you ahve a gateway, 2 you have a virus. Download avast antivirus (its free, and registration is free too) and install it. It will prompt you to reboot and when you click yes it will... reboot. When it comes up again it will do a scan and when it finds something you press "2" to delete all. Just to be safe use spybot after it comes up and doa through scan. Best of Luck!

It'll get rid of that rouge anti-spyware program. I've tried before and it works like a charm.
