Streaming music for free (mostly non download):

    -pandora.com (recommended)

    -purevolume.com (recommended)

    -last.fm

    -iLike.com

    -musicovery.com

    -meemix.com

    Lots of options!

You can also download songs legally and free from:

-spiralfrog.com : Only with Windows. Files are WMAs only and DRM protected. (How it's free: The revenue from the ads on the site goes to the record labels).

-we7.com : MP3s and DRM free, but with 5 second ads at the beginning of each track. Kind of annoying. You can edit the ads out easily though with a sound editor, but that might be breaking the end user agreement, or whatever it's called...

-qtrax.com : Similar to spiralfrog.com, but a P2P. Not sure about DRM. Only for Windows (Mac OS X beta in development). Only for US customers.

Hypemachine. You can listen to free music either by searching for it or by listening to their commercial-free radio broadcast. They mostly have newish indie music, so you probably won't hear any country. Oh, and most of the songs can be downloaded.

Yahoo radio is awsome or just pick your favorite band and listen to them on Yahoo music.
