Let me preface my comments by stating that I am a Clinton fan. I like what they represent, they stand on their own as accomplished national figures and they fight for what they believe in. And, Bill and Hillary have paid their dues. For the very reasons I extend my respect to the Clintons is the rub they must live with supporting Barack Obama. He beat them at their own game. He bested their political fundraising machine, he played a good hand of poker in his national strategy to win the nomination, he took their crown within the Democratic Party, he was the better showman, not necessarily the better candidate and arguably the better politician who won hands down.
The Clintons have been embarrased, humiliated, beaten and at this stage in their life did not get the golden egg, only goosed. Perhaps their is a lingering jealosy and resentment from the standpoint of a competitor.
Hillary has faith in herself, she doesn't have faith in Barack. She is a cold calculating decisive and powerful woman who wants the sceptor and did not get it. It could have been Queen Neferatiti of Eygpt in the same predicament, she too would have been pissed. Of course her response would have been to have her competitor physically gutted. Fortunately for Barack we live in a more sophisticated society where being gutted has gone high tech.
This was a costly and in someways damaging race for the Clintons, it is not easy to rebuild a spent political machine exhausted by 18-20 months of campaigning. In order to make another run for the White House they have to have a high level of sustainability and electability and neither are getting any younger. They have been head of the Democratic Party for 16 years, the jig may be up. Lastly, Obama will still be around, he beat them. They have to beat him to get to the White House or wait their turn and pay more dues. Therein lies the rub.
