    To find the LCD, you should find the least common multiple of all three numbers

    8= 8, 16, 24, 32, 40...72

    12= 12, 24, 36...72

    18= 18, 36...72

    This way it would be 72

    8 = 2•2•2

    12 = 2•2•3

    18 = 2•3•3

    so lcm needs 2³•3² = 72

    432. i think what you are actually trying to find is the least common mutiple. this is the definition: The Least Common Multiple (L.C.M.) of two numbers is the lowest number that can be divided both. It can be used to find the lowest common denominator when adding or subtracting fractions. Don't let the "least" in the name fool you - the LCM is no smaller than the largest of the numbers.

    LCD means the lowest multiple that is common among the numbers.

    2

    That means it's the smallest denominator you can reduce the fraction to for all three of them.

    8=1,2,4,8

    12=1,2,3,4,6,12

    18=1,2,3,6,9,18

    lcd= 2
