How a book that has such an interesting story could be such an excruciating read.

What puzzled me about Great Expectations was how boring and uneventful a work of literature could be.

I agree with labowu, it was extremely boring, but I had to read it for a college English class. I would not recommend it. The storyline was bad, and the main character was so full of himself, he wanted to be a "gentleman" which was just a name for rich, unpopular men who regularly got drunk, wasted their money on lavish items, and fought over idiotic pointless things.

It's popularity. But then, I've never cared for Dickens.
