My computer has recently gotten a virus on it, and i want to know what i need to do to save it. I have McCaffee(i think that is how it is spelled). I have ran it 3 times now, with the last time finding nothing. The first time it found 48, and the second finding 9, but now my computer is acting funny. It has closed down my desktop entirely and the only thing that is still running right now is my antivirus, (this means all of my shortcuts are gone and my toolbar has dispeared)and i am afraid that if i turn off my computer, i might restart to the blue-screen of death. Side note - before it did this, it could not find my harddrive, i would go into to my computer and it would only show my user folder, please help!

First off, take a deep breath. Now that that is done, it is time to reboot the system. You are going to want to boot to safe mode. Do this by pressing f8 right after the BIOS screen clears during your boot up. select safe mode with networking. Once you are in safe mode, update your AV and run the scan. Clean any problems found. Next download, install, and update spybot. This will handle the spyware that most AVs miss. After this is done, you may need to reboot to your OS installation disk to repair any damage to the OS files that your virus problem could have caused. If you do not have an OS disk you may still be able to recover by using system restore. If you do this, make sure you are restoring to a point before you had any problems. After that run your scans again and fix the problems found. Once you are back up and running, I recommend one more piece of protection called ThreatFire. This is a heuristic AV and works differently from your current and most mainstream AVs.

Now if you cannot update your current AV, i also recommend AVG Free. And like its name implies, it is free. You can get it at You will need to uninstall your old AV first. Good luck.

You can only run one anti virus program at a time, but the site explains what you can and cannot have. A virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your e-mail program to spread itself to other computers, or even erase everything on your hard disk.Spyware is software that sends your personal information to a third party without your permission or knowledge. This can include information about Web sites you visit or something more sensitive like your user name and password. Try to get solution for all problems.

First of all, the reason you can't see your desktop is because this "Virus/Trojan" deleted your explorer.exe

we can enable this easily to get your desktop/taskbar enabled again. first of all, we need task manager. since you have no desktop or anything, you may be asking how can i open this? simple, ctrl alt delete, now what we need to is be on the tab "Applications" press on new task, and label the name as explorer.exe

Press ok after that, you will notice that all the shortcuts are coming back.

    alright, so now what?

you need yourself a nice free firewall.

Comodo firewall is my recommendation. This will help us threw the process.

Now we will need registry cleaner to clean up the trash.

Now, goto this location: c:/windows/program files

if there are any suspicious files, delete them.

then go to your trash bin, and right click, and press empty recycle bin.

since this can be a trojan, we need a trojan remover incase comodo doesn't pick up anything

    good luck!
