    We have to solve it by completing square method:

    y = -2x2 + 4x - 3

    = -2(x2 - 2x) - 3

    = -2(x2 - 2x + 1) - 3 + 2

    = -2(x - 1)2 - 1

    So the maximum of y occurs when x = 1 which is y = -1

    So the vertex is at (1, -1)
