Why Do You Think John McCain Wants to Drill Off Our Shores?

It couldn't have anything to do with campaign contributions by executives of these Oil Companies, could it?

Exxon-Mobil

Occidental Petroleum

Sunoco

Shell Oil

Chevron

Oceaneering International

BP

El Paso Energy

Koch Industries

Petroport

Orlon Refining

Atlantic Richfield

Update:

"Campaign contributions from oil industry executives to Sen. John McCain rose dramatically in the last half of June, after the senator from Arizona made a high-profile split with environmentalists and reversed his opposition to the federal ban on offshore drilling.

Oil and gas industry executives and employees donated $1.1 million to McCain last month -- three-quarters of which came after his June 16 speech calling for an end to the ban -- compared with $116,000 in March, $283,000 in April and $208,000 in May."

Easy Question. Off-shore Drilling is like the Gas Tax Holiday that McCain and Hillary Clinton both supported while campaigning. Even Clinton's Aides admit that the Gas Tax Holiday was just used to get votes, because it sounds good. It wouldn't have helped anything.

McCain is pushing for Off-shore Drilling because Americans think that this will lead to Lower Gas Prices, immediately. Of course, off-shore drilling won't lead to lower gas prices until about 10 to 15 years down the road. By then, vehicles in America will be more than 50% electric and mass transit will have doubled. The fact is, this is a ploy by Republicans to get more votes for McCain, who is struggling to keep up with Obama.

sure, this is a unfavourable theory. not the answer if human beings actual need greater low-cost gas. Offshore drilling is safer than it was, yet there are nonetheless oil leaks that do happen. so which you would be able to desire to assert that this is carefully environmentally risk-free is a lie. Secondly, to actual drill in those places does not produce oil for roughly 2 many years or greater. It takes years to construct those sites, and years to actual then drill to the oil. consequently, not a real answer. Face it, gas would be high priced as long as we prefer oil. the only genuine answer is a shift in society to capability our vehicles on something different than oil. John McCain and Bush's off-shore drilling scheme isn't something greater desirable than a gimmick.

John McCain has said that he wants Congress to lift the Federal ban on offshore drilling; BUT, that individual states should have the right to say no. So, does he really favor more offshore drilling or is he just trying to make points by latching on to Bush's coattails?

You are right, I don't like McCain, I think he's another GWB, we don't want that. BUT, what do you think the US will do when every other source of OIL in the world is gone? Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil. When all that is gone (in about 50-100 years), what are we going to do? I don't like it any more than you, i think offshore drilling sucks, but the reality is that with the barrel of oil at $140 no big oil company is going to allow anyone to come up with an alternative to carbon fuels.

    Sorry.

The better question is why did Bush not approve drilling when Republicans had control of congress and the white house in 2005 and the people were freaking out over $3.00 gal.

I'm definitely an Obama supporter, but I'll give McCain the benefit of the doubt on this one, and say he just wants to lessen our dependence on foreign oil and see lower gas prices.

Are you stupid or something... they just gave him millions of dollars worth of free money... he doesn't have to do anything for them. Thats just a stupid idea altogether and I don't see anything wrong with corporations dishing out money so that politicians do whats right/good for companies rather than whats good for the people, who you know ACTUALLY elect the individual.

Democracy has become the cheap whore of Corporate America.

the price of oil will go down the day after they start drilling if not sooner cause the price is going up because of futures trading so when people see that they will start selling and about the contributions why dont u check how much they gave to obama

It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that we NEED the oil, could it?

But then again facts have never been important to socialistic libs that can't stand successful people or businesses.
