Honestly, I say get another doctor who's in touch with reality. You will pass out on only 1800 calories per day. Eat sensibly, move more, and drink PLENTY of water... that is the ONLY "diet" plan ANYONE needs, pregnant or not. There are exceptions if people say, are diabetic or whatever, but you just have to make accomodations for those exceptions.
Basically for you, being that you are a bit overweight, I'd say eat TONS of fruits, low sodium, drink at least 10 glasses of water-preferably ice water each day... substitute lower fat items for regular fat items (cream cheese, soups, salad dressings, etc)... ultimately, eat tons of fresh foods, limit processed foods to a minimum, and get up and move more. If you are healthy, being a little overweight is ok... and being pregnant, you will not lose weight. I'm sorry, but you'll have plenty of time after your baby is born to focus on weight loss. For now, focus on eating healthy! That's it! :)
Again, I'd get a new doctor who supports you and doesn't put an unreasonable burden on your shoulders...
