Taxes in England???
So I hear there are a lot of taxes in England, and they tax you for everything. How high are the taxes, and what do they tax you for? Like can they tax you for the same thing every year, like a tv?

Having lived in the UK for more than 7 years, I can tell you that UK taxes are extremely high and getting worse.
Income taxes are about 20% higher than in the US.
Road tax is based upon the emissions of your vehicle and are quite high for most folks. The equivalent of several hundred US$ per year.
There's a mandatory TV license (around US$ 200 or so equivalent at last check) that you must purchase every year. They use detector vans to catch scoff-laws and the penalties will make you wish you'd paid the fee. You must pay the fee even if you only connect your X-Box to the telly or only watch DVDs on it.
Taxes on petrol (gasoline) are astronomical; some of the highest in Europe. Pump prices right now are over $10.50 per gallon. (£1.40 per litre according to an English mate.)
If you smoke, you'll probably want to consider quitting. A pack of 20 will set you back around $10.00. And since they've banned smoking in pubs you'll probably want to drink at home if you're a smoker; at least you can still do that. But the taxes on drink are very high as well, though it's cheaper at home than in the pubs.
They don't levy traditional property taxes, however there is a "Community Charge" that everyone pays. It's based upon the number of residents in the home or flat and how nice it is (band number) and even tenants pay it.
Loved living there when I did, but the costs have gone barking mad as they say, so I'm back in the US now.
