Letting the oil industry write USA's energy policy turned out to be a pretty bad idea, didn't it?

The oil industry literally wrote America's energy policy in secret from Cheney's office weeks after bush took office in 2001. The records of his "energy task force" have been kept a secret to this day despite many lawsuits.

In the 7 years since, gas is approaching $5/gal, while last year Exxon/Mobil set the record for the most profit ever made by any corporation in the history of the US, breaking its own record that it set the year before. It's former CEO, Lee Raymond, retired at the end of 2005 with a $400 million retirement package, also the largest in the history of any public US company.

Funny you say that; typical liberal mentality. The funny part is that oil began to shoot up after the demoncrats took Congress. Of course, they did promise that they would lower oil prices while they were trying to get elected, and once again the people fell for their rhetoric.

As far as Exxon paying Lee, he deserved it, he brought value to the shareholders, which is his job. Imagine if Congress ran like Exxon, we would have no need for enormous tax rates, something might actually get done. By the way, if you guys are so jealous of the ex-chairman of Exxon, why don't you become a CEO, and reap all the rewards he has; it is the land of opportunity.

Take a look at the chart and see when the price of oil skyrocketed, it was after the dems were in control again.

Why no longer? They broke up the main customer friendly monopoly that ever existed (AT&T). greater to the element, nonetheless, the government already regulates utilities because of the fact they're a necessary component of the rustic’s infrastructure. And in better international locations like the U. S., oil is greater like a application than that's a customer good. that's a necessary and needed means source that: gets human beings to paintings; gets them to markets so as that they've nutrients to consume; strikes products and products from production flora and warehouses to distribution centers; heats properties; is used interior the manufacture of all plastics; and greater. no longer in trouble-free terms is the petroleum marketplace to blame for the rustic’s potential coverage, yet by using their get right of entry to to, and effect on, the Bush/Cheney administration and a Republican ruled Congress from 2001 to 2007—if that they had had to drill or build greater refineries, there is not any longer something that would have stopped them. they do no longer look to be drilling because of the fact the do no longer desire to. all the crap approximately it being the fault of Democrats / liberals / environmentalists, etc. is merely that—crap. they're merely straw adult adult males that take the blame on a similar time as the genuine enemies of united statesa. are the pathologically selfish greed-mongers interior the White domicile, Congress, and company board rooms.
