How can Comcast say their network is bigger than Verizon's?

Those Comcast commercials with the goofy glowing people say Comcast's fiber optic network is bigger but I thought Verizon was worldwide? Miles of fiber-optic cable, number of custormers, amount of bandwidth...just about any way you measure it Verizon's network eclipses Comcast's. Don't get me wrong, I hate Verizon too (I work for a CLEC) but this is just an outright lie.

Comcast counts their tv cabling, too.

These things are in the same neighborhood as the number of angels dancing on the head of a pin, imo, because most marketing teams pride themselves on not knowing anything about the technology anyway.
