Which insurance is responsible to pay? Mine or car owner?
So I was in a car accident, but was not driving my car. If I was driving someone elses car and I have separate insurance, does my auto insurance pay or the car I was driving? Whom do I report to?

Pay for what?? If it's for repairs the check should go to the registered owner and/or the body shop.
You should report it to both depending on the liability coverage, your insurance may have to get involved. If you had permissive use to drive the vehicle, then it's mainly reported to the insurance that covers that vehicle.
If it was your fault, be nice if you were to step up to the plate and offer to pay the deductible.Source(s): Claims Adjuster 16 yrs

Insurance follows the vehicle, therefore, the isurance carrier for the vehicle you were driving will be primary. Your own coverage is considered "excess". If the policy limits for the vehicle you were driving are not enough, you would need to file under your carrier as well to cover any excess damages.

If you're driving someones car with their permission, you are covered under their insurance generally. Yours would only become involved if you caused so much damage it went beyond their limits.
If the accident was your fault, it would be nice if you paid for the damage you did.

Your friend needs to call his/her insurance company since they are the ones that insure that vehicle. Insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver.
