Why do flight attendants offer you a hot towel in a plane?

What's it for? I can't think of why you would need a hot towel when you're in a plane.

It's for "freshening up" your face...it's definitely not going to any good for cleaning your hands.

they only do that to people in first class and i always laugh when i see them. at first, i thought they were handing out egg rolls. i have no idea why they do it, but there's NO WAY it could kill germs. not possible unless it had disinfectant on it or stayed unbelievably hot for 20 minutes. probably just for people to do whatever they want with them. i'd probably put it on my forehead or over my eyes and try to sleep.

To clean your hands before you eat. Otherwise there'd be long queues at the toilets.
