Can I 'pitch-shift' audio files (MP3/WAV)? What do I need to do this?

I want to pitch shift 'All Along the Watchtower' so that I can make my own bassline for it in standard tuning. Because, I am certainly not the bass player for the experiance and therefore I am human and do not have the capacity to remember and improvise such ridiculousness.

I've been pitchshifting guitar pro tabs but who's to say the tab is actually like the song?

So yeah, please help.
