Why do foods high in salt, sugar, or vinegar will not normally spoil?

    Those ingredients act as a preservative. In the past, before refridgeration and freezers, people often preserved meat by salting it and letting it dry out in the air. As you probably know pickles are made in big batches with vinegar and salt. You can also use vinegar and salt for cleaning many things. You can use sugar as a facial scrub and salt for a body scrub in the shower.

    Because that is what you would call the preservatives in the food... notice some say that there are no preservatives in the food... welll those foods that have those ingredients have them.
