    Pablo Neruda won the nobel peace prize in 1971 for his poetry about the atrocities committed by the United Fruit Company and the Guatemalan government against the mayas and mestizos in guatemala. Pablo Neruda was the first writer to put the sufferings of his people to paper, and his writing helped educate the world about the natives plight
