The salary for alarm installers varies tremendously depending on what part of the county you are in. Residential installers typically make $35,000 to $50,000 per year. Some companies pay their residential installers on a "piece work" basis and you can earn good money if you are fast -- but can lose your shirt if you take more than the allotted time to complete an installation.
Commercial installers, particularly those who work with "integrated security systems" (access control, closed-circuit television, etc.) can earn considerably more. Senior installers can make $100,000 a year in some major metropolitan cities.
Keep in mind that many states have training and licensing requirements for alarm installers. This often requires working for several years as an apprentice at a considerably lower salary until you have enough experience to take the test to become a journeyman installer.
There is a high demand for qualified security systems installers so this would be a great field to get into if you have the aptitude and are willing to make the commitment.
