what are good resources for selling your own home?
I live in New Jersey. Do you recommend selling your own home instead of going with a realtor?

My recommendation would be to go through the time of "interviewing" agents in your area. You will be able to see what they can offer in advertising and you'll get a market analysis of your home.
In the meanwhile, you can checkout ForSaleByOwner.com for information on selling on your own. You could also check out the Assist2Sell website. They can put your home on the MLS for a small fee and you do the rest of the work.
But realize, selling a home on your own doesn't just mean trying to save money. You will also have to handle all the phone calls, make sure people are pre-approved for a loan, make the appointments, having to deal with every aspect of the listing that a Realtor would do for you.
Bottom line, if it's priced right, it will sell.

Hard to say in this market, but either way if you do not have a realistic idea on what the value of your home is worth today in this terrible market, then its immaterial if you list threw and agent or FSBO it will not sell
Also remember the average time a house is sitting on this market is close to a year, so if you are looking to get the most bang for your buck it maybe a long time, if you get an appraisal done and not by a Realtor but licensed appraiser and price the home accordingly then better chance

depends; on its value vs price sought,
reason for selling
if possible, keep the house and rent it out
for 50-100% of the mortgage amount.Source(s): RE broker
