An average person's walking speed is 2 to 3 mph. So somewhere between 2 or 3 hours. (6 / 2 = 3 or 6 / 3 = 2).
3 mph = 120 steps per minute roughly.Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking http://www.iloveindia.com/fitness/walking/human-wa...

You have some very misleading answers on here.
Walking at a normal speed on a flat surface is about 3 miles per hour. So to cover 6 miles will take 2 hours.
If you walk briskly, with purpose, you should do it in about 1 hr 30 mins.
If it's over rough ground or across country then you will need to add some time, depending on how rough the ground is and whether you are crossing streams, fences etc.
Hope that makes sense.

How fast do you walk? I used to walk about 10 miles in a day... sometimes it would take me up to 4 hours but i was going at a leisurely pace. If that helps at all. Speed is equal to distance over time. Try that out.
