Looking for an apartment in Toronto?

I need to find an apartment in Toronto for September 1st. Does anyone know any good websites to look through?

I would really like to rent a basement 1 bedroom apartment?

And when is the best time to really start looking?

Hi there, the most popular site for apartments is Craigslist, hands-down. The best time to start looking is 1 - 1.5 months before your move-in date, because that's generally when the ads will go up. Here's Craigslist:

    http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/apa/

Use the searchbar at the top to narrow it down to 1 bedroom apartments within your price range. There are tons of basement apartments out there!

It's not as popular, but ViewIt.ca is also used:

    http://viewit.ca/

Note that ViewIt usually has big apartment buildings, not as many basement apartments.

When you go apartment-hunting in Toronto, make sure to ask about whether the place has:

    - free utilities?

    - internet, cable, and phone ready?

    - any history of mice, cockroaches, or bedbugs?

    - good amenities (grocery store, convenience store, TTC transit stops) nearby

    - parking (if you have a car)

    - laundry

Also, it's a good idea if you aren't familiar with the city to read up on the various neighbourhoods. Some areas will be better-suited to you than others. This site is pretty decent:

    http://www.torontoneighbourhoods.net/search/search...

When you click on a specific area, such as Little Italy in the Downtown area, look at the menu at the left side of the page for an overview, amenities, etc.

Best of luck and welcome to the city! (soon)
