The Golden Rule used to be, originally:
Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.
Now, it is:
Do unto others, 'before' it's done to you!
I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, until they prove to be otherwise. Each person you meet is a new and totally different person. If you don't give them the same opportunity as you did the other guy, you will never know that they could have been a really great guy. When it's your turn and you really want to make every effort to build a meaningful relationship, You may get the same medicine that you have dished out to someone else. Nobody likes rejection.
Respect must be earned. It stands on an individual's integrity. Respect and trust go hand in hand. Trust is the basic foundation in any relationship. But we must give each person the opportunity to show their credibility as a human being.
