CIA (Culinary Institute of America) is actually about 80 miles north of New York City (Poughkeepsie is your closest city there). You do have good people that go there so you shouldn't have to worry about color or anything like that. People from ALL OVER the country go to this school because it is one of THE top cooking schools.

If you're taking public transportation, it is not far from Metro-North in Poughkeepsie. A cab ride may cost you about $8 or so. There's also a City of Poughkeepsie bus (Northside) as well as a Dutchess County LOOP bus (Route 2) that goes by CIA as well and can get you into the City of Poughkeepsie, and in the case of the LOOP bus, will get you to the Poughkeepsie Galleria..the big mall in the region.

    Good luck

Source(s): Went to Marist College (Poughkeepsie), lived in Hyde Park, would pass the CIA all the time on Route 9.

Hyde Park is lovely. Marist College is nearby, West Point is just across the river. There are quite a few estates from the Golden Age. FDR's estate is a great place to visit for the gorgeous gardens. There is a train near to get into the city. If you have been accepted to the CIA don't pass it up grab the great opportunity. Good Luck

It's up along the Hudson River north of NYC in a more suburban environment. It's in Dutchess County. It's a good school and if you can get in and want food as a career, that's the place to be.
