Help me name the song! (folk)?

It's a long shot-- but it's a famous reel or jig (Scottish or Irish) I'm thinking that is played many times and each time it gets faster and faster. It's played on the fiddle and almost always accompanied with a dance. I imagine it's a song from the 17th or 18th centuries... ring a bell?
Update: I can only hum it.. i don't know if this helps at all but it goes like

do do do do do do dededede do do do do dededede
do do do do do do dededede dededededede duhhhhhh

yeah, doubt that helped ;)
Update 2: No wonder no one could answer

It's American! It's The Country Courtship/ Jefferson and Liberty

But thanks for your help!!!
