The Odyssey is the story of the homecoming of another of the great Greek heroes at Troy, Odysseus. His homecoming has been delayed for ten years because they enrage Neptune Poseidon. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is very brave, overcomes many superhuman forces and is clever. For instance, in The Land of the Cyclopes Odysseus made up a plan that ended with him and his men, that were not eaten by the monster, escaping and with him being the one that stuck the giant in the eye. In The Sirens Odysseus filled the ears of the crew with beeswax, so they maybe safe from the hailing call of the Sirens.
After ten-year-long struggled, he was allowed to go home. For most of the ten years he has been living on an island with the goddess Kalypso, who is madly in love with him. Odysseus was offered a choice: he may either live on the island with Kalypso or be immortal like the gods, or he may return to his wife and his country and be mortal like the rest of us. He chose to return. And he did, looking like an old beggar. He killed all of the suitors. Someone revealed to his wife Penelope that Odysseus had returned and defeated the suitors. Penelope was sceptical, and she tested Odysseus with a story of their bed. She recognized him by his response, they were joyfully reunited. In the end, Odysseus told Penelope: “Our life has started again.”
