To be honest with you, I don't know what the real rate of return is for a capitalist regarding the corporate world although I have experienced it first hand myself because the wealthy people that I know do not like to share their wealth or simply love for that matter. Why do you think that underdog David Cook won American Idol when David Archuleta was the privileged prodigy and the favorite of the judges? I was rooting for David Archuleta to win but Jenna Bush Hager voted for David Cook 40 times. How fair is that? I don't have a cell phone so I could not vote.
How much money does a rich person need to live and be happy? The $64,000 question. Bono, Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson come to mind but there are many others like Warren Buffet. How much do each of them give to charity? Who is greedy and selfish, and who is not?
Moreover, I admire what Bill and Melinda Gates have done with their own mega-money surplus to bring peace to the world by helping children in third world countries with education and medical care. I think Bill and Melinda deserve the Nobel Peace prize for changing the world with computer technology and making a difference but no one agrees with me. On the other hand, I do not want Microsoft to buy out Yahoo or force a hostile takeover because that would make Microsoft more of a mega world monopoly than it already is. Would there be more trials in Washington D.C. if Microsoft did this? Yahoo has also made some great investments and contributions to the world at large. I love Yahoo and do not want them to give in to power-hungry Microsoft. What would be the return to Microsoft? Why do they want Yahoo when they already have it all? Is this selfishness and greed? Yes!
Why did Cindy McCain not want to report her earnings in 2007 and how much she had to pay the IRS because of her husband John McCain running for her President? Why is it HER money and not John McCain's? Is this selfishness and greed? MONEY TALKS. Can rich MDs predict Alzheimer's or dementia? Can money cure this terrible disearse? Do researchers want to become rich trying to find a cure? No. Did President Reagan start having symptoms of these diseases in the White House? Why did John McCain foolishly air and disclose his medical records (What about the HIPPA act?) because of money needed for his Presidential campaign that his wife Cindy does not want to spend or his quest for power, fame and fortune and approval from his supporters? All I know is that we laughed about President Reagan having to take a nap every afternoon. Was it because of all of those 3:00am phone calls or because of his age? Please understand that I do not mean any disrespect because I loved President Reagan as a President and actor. MONEY STILL TALKS. I think President Reagan had a great personality and knew how to manage AND TRUST the people who worked for him and helped him make the important decisions in his Presidency.
It has been said that it is very lonely at the top but the people at the top that have all of the money cannot understand what it is like to be hungry, not have a home, or face a serious devastating catastrophe without insurance. What has happened to all of the GREEDY, SELFISH executives at Enron who exploited their employees who trusted them with their life savings and future returns? What about the victims of Hurricane Katrina who lost everything? Are they greedy and selfish? Catastrophes always separate the heroes from the hellraisers.
OK, I am off my soapbox...well, not quite...(my soap choice is ALL) but one last point that I want to make comes to mind regarding your excellent question. What about the greed that is found in some churches who do not pay taxes to the IRS? I do not tithe my 10 or 15% because I want to eat, pay for my housing, and gas to get to work. According to the "powers that be", I am doomed and will probably go to hell for not helping the church and its ministers become richer because they have a tax shelter and lots of 'groupies'. Even churches in the USA are greedy and capitalistic and becoming small corporations, investing in private businesses to survive and make big money. If I give my hard earned money to an agency or church, I want it to go to feed hungry or homeless children, help one of our wounded American soldiers, an AIDS victim, or stop the killing of innocent children in Darfur and around the world.
Lastly, why isn't there an office of WarChild in the USA, preferrably in Tampa where Central Command is for our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan? Is there no interest in this cause because of the greed and selfishness in the USA of rock stars in the USA or a lack of empathy for the less fortunate by very rich film directors in the USA? War Child is a charity of David Bowie and other great British and European musicians including the late Luciano Pavarotti. Please see http://www.warchild.org to see for yourself. Why hasn't there been any discussion of a Band-Aid concert for the orphans in Sichuan, China and the helpless people in Myanmar who lost everything? Even our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan need our help and support but they have become second or back page news, and America is sending the money we need to take care of them to Iraq when Iraq has enough money of their own to rebuild their country. Are there capitalists in the Armed Forces and the Pentagon? What is their return? War is big business and the ultimate sport. But that is another subject. How much do we pay for the World Series? (smile)
Thank you for your question. You made my day.
I am very lucky to have a mind of own and an excellent education because I was born in the USA. The source of some of my information comes from Yahoo News or research I do on the Web. Plus the song, "Money cannot buy me love." It will be a lonely, holiday weekend. It does give me time to think and answer very interesting Yahoo questions. Cheers!
