Suppose that—a few minutes before, there are six people chatting happily in the house. After they leave ,the house becomes quiet, lonely, and empty.從Suppose開始那個1.hyphon 要加嗎？2.那個以假設開頭的句子好像是錯的？請精通英文的大大幫我看一下

#1: 從Suppose開始那個1.hyphon 要加嗎?
The dash ( -- or — ) should be used when making a brief interruption within a statement, a sudden change of thought, an additional comment, or a dramatic qualification. Try to remove the statement within the dash from the sentence; if the sentence appears disjointed or does not make sense, then you may need to revise.
For example: An introductory clause is a brief phrase that comes—yes, you guessed it—at the beginning of a sentence.
So for this sentence, adding dash is correct, but you need to have the end dash too. The tense is incorrect because you are stating something happened in the past, a few minutes ago. Also you should use “ago” instead of “before”.
See corrections below:
Suppose that – a few minutes ago – there were six people chatting happily in the house.
= Suppose that, a few minutes ago, there were six people chatting happily in the house.
= Suppose that there were six people chatting happily in the house a few minutes ago.
Suppose = to consider or imagine something to be a possibility
The sentence starting with the word “suppose” is accurate except for errors in tense and word usage. See explanation above.
=> (Let’s) Suppose that, a few minutes ago, there were six people chatting happily in the house. After they left, the house became quiet, lonely and empty..
Words in ( ) when omitted is a more colloquial writing pattern.
(1) (Let’s) Suppose (that) the statue inside the box is made out of glass. You should handle it with care.
(2) (Let’s) Suppose (that) it only takes 20 minutes to drive from your house to the airport. You still have time to eat your breakfast and get there in time for your flight.Source(s): Myself.
