How would I tie-dye just a normal white cotton t-shirt?
And what type of dye would be best to use?? Where can you find it? Thanks!

Use your white t-shirt and twist sections of the t-shirt i.e. a piece from the middle. Sorry its hard to explain. Anyway then tie up the twisted pieces with elastic bands. Alternativly take one section of t-shirt and tie elastic bands at different places up the section equal distances apart. Just experiment really. You can also place a button under the t-shirt and tie a elastic band under the t-shirt so the button is covered.
The best dye to use is dylan. You can get it from most fabric stores and woolworths etc. Use the one you mix in water not the machine dye one. All you need is that and salt and mix it due to the packets instructions and then dye the t-shirt due to the instructions
When you finished rince the dye and leave the t-shirt to dry and then undo all the elastic bands and voila!

It can be simpler than that, and Simply Spray is a commercial product. The simplest thing to do is to get a clean white t-shirt, and you bunch it and tie it (or you can use rubber bands) inn various patterns. It is fun to experiment. Then you either immerse the whole shirt in the dye, or the part of the shirt you wish. The part which has been tied off will remain white. After that dries, you can do it again with an additional color. Most packets of dye will have instructions on how to do this. The finished product makes it look hard, but it isn't.
