Can water and atf mix via a radiator leak?

I looked in the radiator overflow and found sludge. I drained the radiator and the water was clean, I drained the oil and it was clean too. The car has never overheated that I know of, and has great compression.

Yes, ATF and water can mix with a radiator leak. It would probably be an internal leak. Your transmission fluid is routed through part of the radiator for cooling. If you are getting coolant into your transmission you can say goodbye to it. It doesn't take very much water to ruin a automatic transmission. The clutches inside a auto trans have paper parts and when it gets hot the water that has leaked into it turns to steam and melts the paper parts.

Yes it will look milky & pinkish. Have you checked the trans.
