CONTENTS Cephalexin monohydrate
INDICATIONS
Resp tract infections, ENT infections, UTI, prophylactic treatment of recurrent UTI, skin, soft tissue, bone & joint infections, O & G infections, gonorrhoea, dental infections.
DOSAGE
Adult 1-2 g daily given in divided doses, may increase to 6 g daily in severe infections. Gonorrhoea Single dose of 2-3 g w/ 0.5-1 g probenecid. Infant & childn 25-100 mg/kg body wt daily in divided doses to a max 4 g daily. 5-12 yr 250 mg tds, 1-5 yr 125 mg tds, <1 yr 125 mg bd. In severe infections the dosage may be doubled.
ADMINISTRATION: May be taken with or without food (May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.).

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Cephalosporin hypersensitivity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Penicillin hypersensitivity. Renal insufficiency. Prolonged use. History of colitis. Pregnancy, lactation.
ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, skin rashes, eosinophilia, neutropenia & elevations in serum transaminases. Supra-infection, pseudomembranous colitis.
